This one is the oldest, but I really love it. It is a drawing done in white pastel on black charcoal paper. It is of a person's arms, and a baby angel in the light. One could assume the person is reaching for the child, and in part that is my intention, but it is also a drawing about letting go of this precious thing that you have lost.
The next four drawings were done as a series which I plan to continue on indefinitely, (basically until I am satisfied). The series is meant to be laid out in sets of 2. Each set contains a drawing of myself, and a drawing of a person that I feel I have some connection with. If they were hanging on a walls, the drawing of the person would come first, and then the drawing of myself directly to the right of it. This set up is meant to reflect the relationship between myself ande the person next to me.
Many times in life, a person plays many roles. I have the roles of mother, wife, student, daughter, sister, friend, employee, and then come the roles I play to myself. Sometimes it is hard to shake the feeling that the things you do for yourself come last, and you must reflect on the reasons why you continue to play all of the other roles you play in your life. This series is my way of reflecting on those roles, and discovering not only why I chose to play them in the first place, but what exactly they mean to me. I try to make the connection evident in the emotional quality of the faces in the portraits.
The first set, seen below, is of myself and my son. I often look at him with this look on my face. He is was my first child, and it was rough, having almost lost him at birth. I find myself being grateful for his presence in my life, and also admire him for his advanced intellect and artistic abilities at the tender age of 3. HE teaches ME alot, and through this set I discovered that being a mother is my most important role in life, in that I am responsible for molding two small boys into men. This may be stressful, but it is the also extremely rewarding and this mother-child relationship carries a type of love and satisfaction that you can not experience any other way.

The next set is about myself and my husband. Again, I am examining a relationship, but this time with my husband. I decided to dig into a personal moment. My husband is seen climbing from under the sheets and I am lying in bed. Diving into an intimate moment like this, obviously leads to the examination of the emotional connection with my husband, and exactly what I feel for him. For me it was realizing that our realtionship was much more than love. We keep each other grounded, because we are each other's opposite. He compliments me in a way in a way that no one else can. Any relationship can add stress to your life, but it is a gift when you have some one that can take away stresses as well. These moments show my comfort with my husband, and the deep affection I feel for him. I realize without him, everything in life would be more of struggle and less of a joy.
